More than four decades of exploring the untamed wilderness, mountain passes, desert plains, and wildlife reserves of Southern Africa.
Johan Kriek is a certified tour operator and guide who, for more than 40 years, has been sharing his passion for travel in 4×4s and on motorcycles through the vast wilderness of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, and Tanzania.
His liking for classic vehicles is in perfect balance with his deep knowledge of the African flora and fauna. From a very young age, Johan holidayed with his parents in the now world-famous Kruger National Park, as well as travelled to visit friends and family in the semi-desert plains of the mighty Karoo.
Those intimate bush holidays and travels across wide open spaces were the building blocks that set alight his love for travelling and exploring the great outdoors of Southern Africa.
Accompany us on our travels and discoveries across endless horizons and find out why Johan has earned the nickname of the avid “Bush Man”.
Johan is married to Hellen, and between them they have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
Whether we are navigating dry riverbeds into Botswana’s Northern Tuli Wilderness, setting up rooftop tents under ancient Mashatu and Baobab trees, or riding scenic mountain passes in Eswatini, every ZA Trax itinerary is built on safety, respect for conservation, and genuine hospitality around the campfire.
Specialized cultural and historical Dutch group tours (Groepsreizen NL) are organized jointly by Johan Kriek and travel journalist and South Africa connoisseur Michiel van Dam.
Since his first visit in 1988, Michiel van Dam (born in Amsterdam, 1961) has been devoted to Southern Africa. Since 1990 he has travelled the world as a travel reporter, but his favourite pursuit is riding a motorcycle through the interior of South Africa—the country he writes about with passion and deep expertise.
Michiel is always ready for a compelling story about history or culture and a flavourful local dish. Visit www.padvat.nl for a selection of his articles on South Africa.
