Wild Makuya & Tuli Block Safari (Wilderness, Wildlife and History)
Wild Makuya & Tuli Block Safari (Wilderness, Wildlife and History)
“Mauya Park: Where the Luvuvhu river twists its way through the wilderness to join the great Limpopo, there lies a forgotten corner of the Transvaal, left alone to brood in solitude and silence of the bush …Crooks’ Corner. It was a last home for many a curios and lawless character: a sanctuary from civilization … T.V. Bulpin 1954
Tuli Block: Cape Smoke, a fiery brandy, was doctored with Bobirwa London Dry Gin, a potent spirit distilled locally from palm wine – called Tuli Firewater. A trooper, in the Bechuanaland Border Police (B.B.P.), named Fenton, imbibed copious draughts of Firewater, and fell asleep outside his tent. Awakened in the small hours by a raging thirst and urgent pressure on the bladder, the trooper rose to relieve both, but tripped over his dog. The enraged soldier cursed and kicked his dog mightily, but alas, the dog was a fully grown lion! The Late Trooper Fenton was buried with full military honours… Ilona Somerset 1991″
